Lately I feel as though the question of "why do you work" has come up several times and I feel a bit defensive about it. So here are my reasons.
I work so my family has access to good heath insurance
I work so that we don't just make ends meet but overlap
I work so that we have enough in the bank for emergencies.
I work because I understand the economic situation better than most and I am worried for the future of my family.
I work to support two mortgages
I work so that my daughter is in a good school system
I work so that we can afford to retire when the time comes
I work because my husband is a contractor and if the contract ends so does his paycheck
I work so that Josie can excel beyond me.
I work so I don't have to be paranoid about money and count every penny.
I work for personal fufillment and to make use of my very expnesive education
I work for my sanity.
I work becuase I am an asset to my company
The list goes on but those are th big things. Now do I want to be a stay at home mom, sure. Who doesn't. But it is not my life and I am happy with my life. I don't begrudge anyone their own personal path. This is mine and I don't need any grief or guilt.

Love the hair! It is so cute and wavy. What product do you use on it? I'm going to get mine cut...shhh, don't tell Jake. He leaves next weekend for 5 weeks...he's going to be surprised when he comes home! Love the new blog colors!
ReplyDeleteKate, I absolutely agree with what you said. I am getting the "Why are you coming back to work? You need to be home with your new baby," talk at work... and these people are talking about next school year! I don't fault someone who wants to/can stay at home... it's just not my choice to do that (at this point) either.
ReplyDeleteP.S. You look great!

Thank for the support. Lately I just seem to be getting a lot of unintentional guilt over the subject.
ReplyDeleteKelly I use the Panteen curl line on my hair. This picture is acuatlly an old one. RIght now I am rocking the straight hair, still short though.
